SANTA MARIA, Calif. — October 31, 2026. A city project to rehabilitate portions of Mahoney Road and Black Road was originally scheduled to run from late August through October 23, 2026, subject to weather.

The city’s August 13 construction announcement identified roadwork along Mahoney Road between the Tanglewood community boundary and Betteravia Road, and on Black Road between Betteravia Road and the southern Windset Farms driveway.

Why residents were warned about delays

The work included pavement grinding and rehabilitation, with regular construction activity planned for 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. During active construction, drivers were advised to follow temporary controls, reduce speed and allow additional travel time.

Is work over?

The projected October 23 end date has passed. However, the original notice alone does not establish that the final pavement was completed, accepted by city inspectors or that every traffic restriction was removed. Drivers should rely on current street signs and the city’s latest public works information, not a dated construction announcement.

For a present problem such as rough pavement or a damaged work-zone marker, residents may contact the city’s Public Works Engineering Division. The announcement names Senior Civil Engineer Luis Magallón, 805-925-0951 extension 2225.
